We're preparing for Summer 2009, "In Which the Bauer Family Goes on an Expotition." Any original Winnie-the-Pooh fans out there? We've always enjoyed reading Winnie the Pooh to the kids, and gotten our share of laughs from some of the things said. Really, who can't relate to the following at one time or another?
Aaron and I are looking for the perfect moment when we can use that line at home... I'm imagining that it in reality it will probably sound something like this:
Anyway, as we ready ourselves for our great adventure of the summer, we got to thinking of Christopher Robin's "Expotition" to the North Pole (for a charming and amusing summary of the story, check out www.winnie-pooh.org/expotition-north-pole.htm). On the surface, it seemed a likely title for our trip with several young ones. However, as we went back to the story, it really was an even more appropriate definition than we originally realized...
As Christopher Robin explains, "It's an Expedition. That's what an Expedition means. A long line of everybody..."
So, as we prepare our "long line of everybody" for excitement, adventure, over-stimulation, plane rides and customs, Mayan ruins, humidity, walking dusty streets, swimming and more swimming, volcanoes, hotels, and howler monkeys, we thought we'd take a few minutes (ha! Heather did this, so you know she spent way more than a few minutes...) and set up a blog to keep in touch with you all on our journey.
We'll try to post each day of our trip as we have internet access (we should have access most days), and will welcome your comments.
On the sidebar, we've listed our itinerary so you can follow along, and have also provided links to the places we're staying and some of the places we'll be visiting so you can better visualize what we're doing. We hope you'll be able to experience our trip with us and share this special journey back to Guatemala with our family!
So off Pooh goes to round up the others for the Expotition, and the first person that he runs into is Rabbit.
"Hallo, Rabbit," he said, "is that you?"
"Let's pretend it isn't," said Rabbit, "and see what happens."
