Notes Home: Dinner at Kacao's

We went to dinner tonight at our favorite restaurant in the world... Kacao's. It just so happens that it's in Guatemala City. :-) This is one of the first places that Aaron and I ate in Guatemala when we had just become parents. We have so many fond memories of deeply significant times in our lives celebrated here! It was a joy to come at sit at the same table surrounded now by all of our six children. Yes, it was the same table we sat at with you guys in Guatemala on our mission trip we took, and the same table we shared with Grampa Bob, Gramma Sue and Aunt Amy when Max joined our family!
They serve traditional Guatemalan dishes and the most delicious "pan de coco:" coconut rolls. We're still trying to perfect the recipe at home. :-)

It was such a special dinner!
Tomorrow morning we pack up once again. A driver and translator from Christian Children's Fund here in Guatemala will pick us up at 9:30 am for the drive higher into the mountains to Totonicapan. Along the drive, we will cross over the highest point on the Central American Highway- CA1. Once there, the plan is that we will visit Project San Miguel, deliver the 3 Rubbermaid totes of donations for them, and meet the children we sponsor and their families: Karina, Yesica, and Carlos. We're so excited to meet them tomorrow!
We'll spend one night in Totonicapan, and then travel from there the following day to Lake Atitlan, also known as "the most beautiful lake in the world." :-)

Anonymous said...: June 25, 2009 at 2:51 AM; great pictures max. girls even with all that beautiful scenery you are the most beautiful! hey guys, guess what? we have a new baby alpaca. excited for you to see him when you get home---he is cute! so, i read a joke i thought you might enjoy...why did the chicken cross the basketball court? because the ref was calling fowls. ;') and i thought this was a good question for you sightseers...why do we pay to go up in tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to see things on the ground? ;-] God bless you as you make more sweet memories. traceycrabtree

It would be so great if you could bring some home for everyone to try but they'd be stale so not worth it. Besides they are SO good fresh from the oven the way they serve them there. Aaron, thanks for the text message I was instantly envious as I thought of those rolls! I sure wish we could get the recipe right back here at home. Were those horchadas (spelling?)you were drinking? Everyone looked great and like you were all having a good time. The zoo looked like fun too even with the thunderstorm! That howler monkey can really let loose can't he? Now on to see your sponsor children which should be a great experience for the kids (and you too)and then Lake Atitlan. It will be fun to see some pictures from there along with Antigua. (Go Antigua!) Have fun, don't get dizzy on your journey up there at 12,000 feet!
